Dr. Lawrence Brooks, Chief Operating Officer
Lawrence Brooks, DDS is a 1967 graduate of the NYU College of Dentistry, completed his residency at Mount Sinai of New York in 1968 and then served for two years as a Lieutenant in the US Naval Reserve (1968-70) as the Base Dentist for the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk, VA.
Following the Navy, he opened a solo practice in Manchester, NH from 1970-1976 and then relocated to Netanya, Israel with his family where he established a private practice and was a member of the prosthetics faculty at the University of Tel Aviv Dental School. Both of his practices were of the low-volume, high-profit fee-for-service model.
In Netanya, he became frustrated with the difficulties of finding consistent lab results and setup an in-office lab for the needs of his own practice. His lab ultimately led to the training technicians for the local technical college.
Upon returning to the Boston area in 1983, Dr. Brooks felt there was an opportunity for a dentist with his combination of real-world practice plus laboratory technology experience to create a new type of lab in the profession and he established Professional Laboratory Service (renamed Smile-Vision in 2000) as a result. The lab focused on cosmetic procedures and bonded porcelain which was just emerging at that time. Dr. Brooks continues to work in the capacity of CEO of Smile-Vision. Over the past 25 years, Dr. Brooks has partnered with over 2,400 dentists in 41 states as a consultant, helping Smile-Vision clients to improve their practices by doing more large-case dentistry.
“As a practicing dentist, I know how frustrating it can be to work with suppliers and labs that “just don’t get it.” I pride myself on how Smile-Vision isn’t “just a lab,” but a true partner in the practices of top dentists across the country and abroad. We work to give you tools to help grow your practice and make procedures faster and more predictably which, while a no-brainer to our organization, oddly enough is a rarity in the profession at large. This is one of the very reasons I created our cosmetic imaging service, the Template Technique and the Overtemp Technique as each of these items either improve case acceptance and clinical efficiency. We’re proud to have clients all over the world using our services and techniques.”
Over the years, Dr. Brooks has presented to over 150 dental groups both large and small including the California Dental Association Convention, The Yankee Dental Congress and the AACD annual meeting.
His practice management articles have been published in Dentistry Today, Dental Products Report, Dental Economics and Contemporary Esthetics. Dr. Brooks and Smile-Vision have been featured in the Lab Industry’s largest publication ‘Lab Management Today’ as a Lab of the Month and Smile-Vision cases are regularly featured in Dentistry Today.
Dr. Brooks is also well versed in sales. Besides attending the “School of Hard Knocks” while marketing Smile-Vision, he has logged over 350 hours of attendance at power-packed sales seminars and meetings. Some meetings, like the Big Case Marketing Seminars and Maximum Case Acceptance with Dr. James McAnally, Dr. Bill Blatchford’s Blatchford Solutions Program and Professional Business Services meetings, are focused on the fee-for-service dental market, while others, such as those given by Joe Polish and Dan Kennedy, focus on advanced general sales techniques. Dr. Brooks has a passion for ethically selling dental services that are good for patients and willingly shares his experience and knowledge with clients and friends.
In 2009, Dr. Brooks teamed up with Dr. James McAnally, CEO and founder of Big Case Marketing to in the role of COO managing operation technologies, the “back-office” of the organization, and helping to turn James’ marketing genius into programs and products for the advanced trained dentist to enhance their dental practice success.
Amber Brust, Program Trainer
Amber Brust has worked alongside Dr. McAnally for the last 7 years in a variety of roles starting as patient care specialist in his private practice and expanding to member marketing director and program trainer at Big Case Marketing.
During Amber’s time as patient care specialist she successfully presented hundreds of cases alongside Dr. McAnally that contributed to the unprecedented success of the practice. One of the most valuable assets developed was learning the psychology behind selling complex dental cases and determining which ones to pursue.
As Big Case Marketing’s Program Trainer Amber’s role involves coaching the proven methodology developed by Dr. McAnally which includes external marketing, internal funneling, and the ethical selling system and presentation skills required to increase case acceptance with elective cases. Amber grew up on Camano Island, a beach community north of Seattle, Washington. She currently enjoys the fast pace of Manhattan, NYC.
